Growing Grace with Christian Love for Everyone

united methodist men

The first charter for Methodist Men was issued in 1942, but independent societies of men within The Methodist Church existed long before that. There were, among others, the Brotherhood of St. Paul, the Mizpah Brotherhood, the Wesley Brotherhood, and the Methodist Brotherhood. Their slogan was: “A Million Methodist Men Making the Mind of the Master their Main Motive and Mission.”

Today the members' mission is: “Helping men grow in Christ so others may know Christ.” UMM strive to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world through four focus areas:

  • Leadership development
  • Church renewal
  • Ministry with the poor
  • Promotion of global health

At Grace United Methodist Church, members of United Methodist Men operate on behalf of the church and in fellowship with one another. The group organizes a number of specific projects/events, including:

  • Super Bowl  Soup Dinner (Feb.)
  • Sweetheart Breakfast (Feb.)
  • Lincoln Saltdogs Baseball Game (Jul. or Aug.)
  • Lord’s Acre Auction and Luncheon (Nov.)
  • Christmas Program Candy Bags for Children (Dec.)

UMM members often function in a more informal way, providing many of the "handy man" services for the church. For example, in 2014, the UMM added wood panels to and painted the new handicapped accessible ramp that accesses the sanctuary.

Grace UMC’s UMM organization holds a breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. on the third Sunday of each month (except June, July, and August).
